Sardinia, a unique experience

B&B Janna e Mare, Cagliari - Sardinia

A delightful chic bed & breakfast located in the heart of the Cagliari region. Highlights are the charming, individually furnished guest rooms for up to four people.

About the accommodation

This is a fantastic place to stay! The beautifully designed rooms are spread over two floors of a beautiful old city palace. There is also a cozy roof terrace on the top floor where you can relax.

Rooms

Only five rooms, but each with a wow factor. Individually designed decorations, wallpaper, fabrics and carpets and each room is different due to the old building. For example, on the ground floor there is a large quadruple room with even a mini office in a corner of the room overlooking the lively shopping street Via Manno. Two more quadruple rooms are located in the attic and equipped with a double bed with a full sofa bed on the lower floor. The double room, on the other hand, has two decorative balconies that also overlook Via Manno. All rooms are of course equipped with air conditioning, wifi and TV and soundproof windows - because here you spend the night in the middle of the old town and if there is a party outside, it can be a bit noisy inside.

Activities

Discover the beautiful city of Cagliari. On foot or by bike, you can easily explore the historic district and get to know the tradition, culture and old crafts of the island's capital. The special thing about this family-run property is its location in a lively alley with restaurants, shops and boutiques and atmospheric cafes around the corner. Fancy a few hours on the beach? The long sandy beach Poetto is only 6 kilometers from the city. Here you can rent sun loungers or umbrellas or have a delicious lunch in one of the beach bars.

Cagliari

Sardinia's capital is located on the south coast of the island. The city was founded by the Phoenicians around 800 B.C., but it owes its name to the Romans, who called this city “Carales”. The oldest part of the town, Castello, is located against a steep height, surrounded by the old city walls.

The new districts are located along the base of the Castello quarter and the current Cagliari is situated on and among 7 hills. Both east and west of the city there are large lagoons, such as Stagno di Cagliari and Stagno di Montargius, where pink flamingos can be found all year round. These salt lakes are located in front of the 8 km long sandy beach; Poetto.

The city centre starts at the impressive quay at the Via Roma, which leads towards the main railway station and the town hall at the junction of the Via Roma with the Largo Carlo Felice. Via the Largo Carlo Felice you'll arrive at the slightly higher located Piazza Yenne, a cosy square filled with terraces, where the shopping street Via Mano starts as well.

Following the Via Mano you'll arrive at the Piazza della Costituzione. You can use the marble stairs to the visit the square of Bastione San Remy, built in the beginning of the 20th century. From here you have a beautiful panoramic view across the entire city. Ascending the stairs you'll arrive in the oldest district of the city; Castello. This district is filled with many impressive monuments, such as the Torre dell'Elefante dating back to 1307, Torre di San Pancrazio dating back to 1305, the Palazzo Vicereggio, the cathedral Santa Maria and the National Archaeological Museum.

Viale Buon Cammino will lead you down to the arena of the Roman amphitheatre, dating back to the 2th century A.C. This theatre, built in a rock slope slump, is still used as open-air theatre nowadays.

To the south-west of the amphitheatre there’s a botanical garden. This lush garden, planted in 1865, contains over 500 different types of tropical plants. There are various groves and caves as well.

The quarter behind the Via Roma houses numerous cosy restaurants situated in one of the many narrow alleys in a mostly car-free area.

Discover the southern province of Cagliari

The province of Cagliari and its eponymous capital are located in south-west Sardinia. The daily ferries from Napels and Civitavecchia and large cruise liners sailing the Mediterranean moor in Cagliari’s marina, which is situated right in front of the city centre, along the Via Roma. The city's own sandy beach Poetto (pronunciation: po-etto), stretching out for 8 kilometres, is very popular among the locals from April/May through the beginning of October. Located a few kilometres from the centre of Sardinia's capital, Cagliari-Elmas International Airport connects the capital to the main land.
