Public transport tips from Sardinia4all

Do you want to travel by public transport in Sardinia? Sardinia has various bus and train connections, but you should keep in mind that the network, with the exclusion of the larger cities, is not always optimal. In addition, the prices of taxis are high. Sardinia4all therefore advises you to be in possession of a (rental) car if you plan to see and undertake a few things on the spot. If you decide to travel within Sardinia without a car, read the tips below to prepare for the various options.

Public transport in Cagliari

In the capital Cagliari you will hardly have any problems. The city has a good network. From Cagliari Elmas airport you can reach Piazza Matteotti in the center of the city in 10 minutes by train. The trains run every 20 minutes between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. and the price of a ticket is approximately € 1.30. More information about this regional train from Cagliari-Elmas to Cagliari can be found here. From Cagliari you can also travel by train to Oristano, Olbia, Iglesias, Macomer and Sassari.

Within the city and to the Poetto beach you can move easily with the bus or tram (Metro Cagliari) . The tram, which has been operating for several years, has a number of stops in the center and connects the town with small villages near Cagliari and the hospital in Monseratto. The plan is to expand this network in the future.

During the summer months there is also an intercity bus from Cagliari via Oristano, Nuoro, Siniscola, Olbia, Arzachena and Palau to Santa Teresa di Gallura in the north.

Public transport in Alghero

Are you arriving at Alghero Fertilia Airport? Then you can take the bus to the center of Alghero. Buses leave every hour from 5:00 am and the price of a bus ticket is approximately € 1.

From Alghero you can also take the bus to towns such as Olmedo and Bosa and the city of Sassari. Public transport in Alghero itself is excellent.

Public transport in Olbia

Olbia Costa Smeralda airport is located approximately 4 kilometers from the center of Olbia. From the airport, buses No. 2 and No. 10 run every 20 minutes to Olbia.

In addition, ARST provides bus connections to Porto Cervo, Baia Sardinia, Tempio Pausania, Budoni, San Teodoro and Sassari.

During the summer months, there is also a intercity bus from Olbia via Nuoro, Siniscola to Cagliari and towards Arzachena, Palau and Santa Teresa di Gallura.

A regional train Olbia - Cagliari connects the north with the south of Sardinia.
