Fly & Drive Sardinia – flexible travel with flights, rental car and hotels

Fly & Drive Sardinia: travel independently and flexibly
This allows you to benefit from low airfares while remaining flexible when planning your trip. You can combine different airlines, fly out in the morning and return in the evening, or arrive in northern Sardinia and fly home from the south.
Although we do not book the flights for you, we are happy to help you with your search. We can advise you on the best flight connection, airport and trip duration for your planned holiday in Sardinia.
Your benefits:
• Book your flight directly with the airline at the best available fare
• Combine different airlines and airports
• Choose a rental car that suits your route and travel period
• Personally selected hotels and holiday accommodation
• A tailor-made itinerary instead of a standard package

Why choose a Fly & Drive holiday in Sardinia?
Maximum freedom with a rental car
Sardinia is perfect for exploring by rental car. Many of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia, small mountain villages, agriturismos and nature reserves are located away from the main holiday resorts. With your own rental car, you decide each day when to leave, where to stop and how long you want to stay.
A quick and convenient journey to the island
Compared with travelling in your own car and taking the ferry, flying saves valuable holiday time. After landing, you collect your rental car directly at the airport and drive to your first accommodation. This is particularly convenient if you only have one week or prefer to avoid the long drive and ferry crossing.
Flexible travel through northern and southern Sardinia
You do not have to arrive and depart from the same airport. You could, for example, fly into Olbia or Alghero and return home from Cagliari. This allows you to discover different regions on an individual self-drive tour of Sardinia without having to return to your starting point at the end of your holiday.
When selecting your rental car, we check whether it can be returned to a different location and whether any one-way fees apply.
Your Sardinia road trip, your pace
A Fly & Drive holiday is not a ready-made, one-size-fits-all package. Anyone can book one of those! You can spend two or three nights in each place, plan a self-drive tour with a beach extension or adapt the entire trip to your personal interests. Would you prefer hiking, experiencing local life or visiting a particular place? Simple accommodation during your road trip followed by a touch of luxury or a holiday apartment at the end? No problem! We design your route to create a comfortable balance between driving times and memorable experiences.

Hand-picked accommodation for your Sardinia road trip
Agriturismos in the Sardinian countryside
Ideal for travellers who want to experience Sardinia away from the main beach resorts. Many agriturismos are surrounded by olive groves and vineyards or located in the island’s mountainous interior. They often serve traditional Sardinian dishes prepared with ingredients from their own farm.
Small boutique hotels
Independently run boutique hotels are an attractive alternative to large holiday resorts. They are found in historic towns, small coastal villages and rural locations, making them particularly suitable for stays of two or three nights.
Holiday homes and apartments
If you want to spend several days in one place, an apartment or holiday home offers more space and independence. Many properties feature a terrace, kitchen and washing machine, as well as private parking or a parking area nearby.
Beach hotels for relaxing days by the sea
A road trip does not mean spending every day behind the wheel. We deliberately include longer stays by the sea, leaving plenty of time for beach days, boat trips or a relaxing day by the pool. Your tailor-made self-drive tour of Sardinia combines memorable experiences with time to unwind.
Frequently asked questions about Fly & Drive holidays in Sardinia
Does Sardinia4all offer a complete Fly & Drive package including flights?
No. You book your flight directly with the airline, allowing you to benefit from competitive fares and combine different airlines or airports. We arrange your accommodation in Sardinia and, if required, a suitable rental car.
Can you help me choose the right flights?
Yes. We can advise you which flights best suit your travel dates and planned itinerary. We consider arrival times, departure airports and possible combinations for your outbound and return journeys.
Why is booking each part separately often cheaper?
A traditional Fly & Drive package combines the cost of flights, a rental car and standard accommodation. By booking directly with the airline, you benefit from its current fares. We can then select accommodation and a rental car independently to suit your itinerary.
Do I need a credit card to rent a car in Sardinia?
You will usually need a valid credit card in the main driver’s name when collecting the rental car. The card must have sufficient available credit for the security deposit. Remember to bring the PIN and check the card limit before travelling.
If you do not have a credit card, we can try to find a local company that accepts a cash deposit or debit card. These options are often more expensive. Deposit and insurance conditions vary according to the rental company and selected rate.
Can I return the rental car to a different airport?
Yes. You can, for example, collect your rental car in Olbia and return it in Cagliari. Some rental companies charge a one-way fee. We check which combination is most practical for your itinerary and what additional charges may apply.
Are there toll roads or ZTL zones in Sardinia?
There are no toll roads in Sardinia. However, you should pay close attention to signs in towns and historic centres. ZTL means “Zona a Traffico Limitato”, a restricted traffic zone that usually permits access only to authorised vehicles.
Some entrances are monitored by cameras. It is therefore safer to park outside the historic centre and walk the final section. If your hotel is located inside a ZTL, ask whether it can register your rental car’s number plate.
How do petrol stations work in Sardinia?
Many petrol stations offer a choice between Self Service and Servito. Self-service is normally cheaper. Outside staffed opening hours, you will often need to pay in advance at an automatic machine. Petrol stations are further apart in remote areas and the island’s interior, so avoid beginning a long journey with an almost empty tank.
What are the roads and driving times like in Sardinia?
Sardinia’s main connecting roads are generally well maintained. Coastal roads and minor routes can be narrow and winding. In mountainous areas, journeys often take longer than the distance on the map might suggest.
Avoid planning too many accommodation changes. Spending two or three nights at each stop prevents your road trip from becoming a daily transfer.
What size rental car is best for Sardinia?
A small or medium-sized rental car is ideal for most trips around Sardinia. It is easier to drive through narrow village streets and park in smaller spaces. If four people are travelling with large suitcases, choose a vehicle with sufficient luggage capacity, such as an estate car.
What insurance is included with the rental car?
We only offer rental rates with comprehensive insurance cover. Depending on the rate, the excess is either waived or reimbursed following a covered claim. Glass, tyres, the underside and roof of the vehicle are also included.
Always inspect the car when collecting it and photograph existing damage. Ask for any missing damage to be added to the handover report immediately. Our rental car partner Sunny Cars provides a practical app for this purpose.
Can I fly into Olbia and return from Cagliari or Alghero?
Yes. This type of flight combination is ideal for a self-drive tour from northern to southern Sardinia. Suitable flights must, of course, be available on your chosen travel dates.
How long should a Sardinia road trip be?
We recommend at least seven days for one region. Ten days is more comfortable for a road trip through northern or southern Sardinia. If you want to explore the island from north to south, allow approximately 12 to 14 days.
Can the Fly & Drive holiday be tailored to my preferences?
Yes. The duration, itinerary, number of stops and type of accommodation are tailored to your wishes. Beach stays, agriturismos, special excursions and different arrival and departure airports can all be incorporated into your trip.
Is a Fly & Drive holiday in Sardinia suitable for families?
Yes. We select family-friendly accommodation, suitable rooms or apartments and a rental car with enough space for everyone and their luggage. Child seats can be added to the car rental booking.
Can I book accommodation without a rental car?
Yes. If you have already reserved a rental car, we can arrange only the accommodation for your Sardinia road trip.
