Sardinia, a unique experience

Agriturismo Archelao, Oristano - Sardinia

Would you also like to spend your holiday on an Italian farm? Archelao is a wonderful example of a real agriturismo in Sardinia. You spend the night in a quiet place in the countryside, where the family has their large farm. On the estate they grow fruit, olives and vegetables and animals are kept. In the restaurant you can of course taste all homemade products.

About the accommodation

About twenty minutes' drive from Oristano, in the west of Sardinia, is Agriturismo Archelao. Livestock and agriculture are the main activities of this well-kept farm. As a guest of Archelao you can of course also take a look behind the scenes. You can taste all the products of the agriturismo in the restaurant or buy it as a nice souvenir for those who stay at home. Tip: be sure to try the delicious home-grown sausages, cheeses and jams. On the same site is the park "Dinosardo", which is open on weekends or on request for a short educational journey through prehistory.

Rooms

Agriturismo Archelao has five simple but comfortable air-conditioned rooms for its guests. These each consist of a separate entrance with space for a single bed, with an extra pull-out bed for a possible 4th guest. Next you will find a separate double room and the bathroom. You look out on the garden and there is a seat at the front of the room.

Agriturismo Archelao

Oristano

Oristano, located in a fertile area on the west coast of Sardinia, dates back to 1070 A.C. The city’s intimate historic city centre contains the St. Mary's Cathedral (1228) as well as the sandstone tower Torre di Mariano II (1292) and the tower of Portixedda, both originally part of the old city walls. Other highlights are the Gothic church of Santa Chiara (14th century) and Palazzo Parpaglia, featuring archaeological finds from Tharros.
Oristano is also known for its equestrian tournament Sa Sartiglia, for the past 500 years held in Oristano on Carnival Sunday and Mardi Gras.

Discover the province of Oristano in west Sardinia

In the west of Sardinia is the province of Oristano with the capital of the same name. This region is quite flat and has relatively little tourism, the reason for this special region is dominated by olive cultivation, fishing, agriculture and livestock farming! In this region you will find extensive vineyards with the typical Oristan Vernaccia grapes. The extensive tasting of this delicious wine is a must! Taste this wine here! Discover for example the small authentic town Bosa, but also one of the numerous archaeological remains dating back to before our era are certainly worth a visit. Also visit the Sinis peninsula, of which the entire coastal area is a protected area. Capo San Marco is the northern tip of the Gulf of Oristano and is a wonderful place for a small excursion by bike or hike. Take a refreshing dip from one of the beautiful beaches of San Giovanni di Sinis. At the lake of Santa Giusta you can see pink flamingos and other birds that live here in a paradise of their own! Around the fishing village of Cabras is produced the delicious bottarga (roe), which is used in many Sardinian dishes. In the town of Oristano, an equestrian tournament is still held every year during Carnival: "Sa Sartiglia", masked horsemen galloping on steeds at breath-taking speed aim their swords at a tin star.
